With 13 Premiership rugby clubs under its wing, the PRL wanted to investigate how it could become a force for good in terms of sustainability in UK rugby.
Working as an umbrella organisation for 13 separate and independently-operational rugby clubs, PRL firstly needed to understand where each of its members was sitting in terms of attitudes towards sustainability and initiatives already undertaken. By undertaking consultations with each individual club, we were able to set a baseline on which future activity and improvements could be recorded, and produce a framework of recommendations across the relevant pillars of sustainability. These recommendations were categorised into ‘quick fixes’ and ‘longer-term projects’ – we find this helps to concentrate efforts and avoids organisations feeling overwhelmed with a huge to-do list. By setting a baseline, organisations can also set targets and track their progress over time – a real motivation to put meaningful policies in place.
